This museum tells the story of a West Country woollen town, its people and its history. Housed in a former woollen mill, the museum displays include working textile machinery, a weaver's cottage, a medieval castle and local history displays. There are plenty of interactive exhibits, a children's hunt and a mouse trail. Plus regular temporary exhibitions. The woollen industry played a crucial part in the town's development and working textile looms are on display. We even produce and sell our own work.
Other displays includes a reconstruction of the town's medieval castle. Visitors can explore a timeline on Trowbridge's past and the carousel of life. There are also reconstructions of a Weaver's Cottage and Taylors, a draper's shop. Other displays include the history of Brewing and the Life and Works of Sir Isaac Pitman, Trowbridge's most famous son.
